Biography

Ahmet Haşim (Baghdad 1887-Istanbul 1933) is one of the most influential poet of the Turkish literature in the 20 th century, along with Yahya Kemal Beyatlı. His studies to create the pure poetry, took place at the decline of the Ottoman Empire. At the time men of letters were engaged with the didactic literature and Ahmet Haşim's effort somehow seen useless. But both he and Yahya Kemal directed all their efforts to the pure poems. His small poetry books Göl Saatleri (The Hours of Lake), and Piyale (The Goblet) created lots of criticism when they were first published. His images caused lots of mocking in the satirical magazines. He did not delay to reply them, which also explained his concept of poetry.
Ahmet Haşim was also famous of his fantastic prose. His essays are still loved and read. All of his works, including poems and prose are edited by İnci Enginün and Zeynep Kerman and published by the Dergâh Publishing.
